The Secret to Feeling Good About Being Needed: Reframing your Mindset

"Don't feel bad if people remember you only when they need you. Feel privileged that you are like a candle that comes to their mind when they are in the dark." 

We've probably all heard this quote before. 

A lit candle radiating warmth and tranquility.

It's a cold, dark night. 

You are the only one in your room, and the candles you have lit are the only source of light. You're feeling low and your mind won't stop racing. 

And suddenly, someone enters through the door. You look up and see that it's the person you've been thinking about. They've come to see you.
 
You get a wave of happiness and relief. You're not alone any longer.

However, you soon realize that this person was just there to see you because they need something from you. And you once more experience being alone and used.

It feels bad and it's really hurtful when people only remember us when they need us. 

We feel used and unimportant. We feel like we are just a means to an end. 

But it’s important to remember that you are not alone in this and there are a lot of people in the world who are only remembered by others when they need something from them.

It would be nice if people thought of you all the time, even when they don't need anything from you. 

But the fact that people remember you when they only need something from you is a good sign- a sign that you've impacted someone's life, even if it's in a small way.

Consequently, we should feel ourselves fortunate instead! We are like candles that come to their mind when they are in the dark. 

And that’s a beautiful thing!
